The Tonga Development Bank is Tonga’s Bank for the people of Tonga has been heavily involved in many community activities each year. This is a means of “giving back to the community”.

Scholarships offered

The Tonga Development Bank offers more than 40 scholarships annually at approximately $30,000 to students at 10 various Vocational and selected Tertiary institutions, both managed by government and private as well. This scheme started in 2003, commemorating the Bank’s 25 years of serving the people of Tonga, in 2002. The institutions located on the main island of Tongatapu are: ‘Ahopanilolo Technical Institute, Montfort Technical Institute, Queen Salote College – Catering and Hospitality, St Joseph’s Business College, Tonga Institute of Higher Education, Tonga Institute of Science and Technology and Tupou Tertiary Institute. The Hango Agricultural College in ‘Eua and Pouono Campus of Tupou Tertiary Institute, Mailefihi Siu’ilikutapu College, in Vava’u. For the first time ever, Tupou College was awarded with these study awards this year. There were a total of 12 recipients from Tupou College.

The scholarships cover full tuition fees for the year.

Sponsorships

The Tonga Development Bank provides sponsorships varying from International, National and Local/Community levels. Events and activities financially supported by the Bank includes, Sports, Education, Health, Youth and Community Related Projects and NGOs. Generally, the Bank also support projects affiliated with staff at all levels.

At the International Level, TDB is the main sponsor for the Tonga Boxing and Tonga Weight Lifting Team to the 2015 Pacific Games in PNG and ongoing to the 2019 Games to be hosted in Tonga.

Annual Holiday Market Festival – Tongan Crafts & Mats, local food and lots of fun

The annual Holiday Market Festival for our micro-finance clients was held on Dec 2nd & 3rd, 2015 at the St Paul’s Anglican Church Hall grounds in Nuku’alofa. Our local clients from Vava’u, Ha’apai and ‘Eua clients were selling Tongan handicrafts, fresh produce – root crops and fruits, foodstuff and lots more. Our micro-finance clients have been working all year to bring their products to market and sale proceeds will help to repay their small loans, deposits to participants Savings accounts as well as raise some funds for a good Christmas with their families.
