  • Lord Afu'alo Matoto - Chairman of the Board

    Qualifications – BA, MA 1970 – 1971 University of Durham, England, UK

    Secretary for Finance in 1977 then to the Bank of Tonga in 1983 as Manager Banking Development then to other managerial roles before becoming the Managing Director of the Tonga Development Bank in 1999 to 2006. Matoto was then appointed as the Minister for Public Enterprises and Information 2006 – 2007, then Minister for Finance & National Planning 2008 to 2010. He is the current Chairman of the Board since February 2013. Lord Matoto is a Christian and the President of the Constitution Free Church of Tonga since 2012.

  • Paula Taumoepeau - Director

    Qualifications – BA, MA 1990 – 1991, Massey University, NZ.

    Paula commenced his career as a Research Officer in 1992 with the National Reserve Bank of Tonga. He worked in six different sections of the NRBT before leaving 16 Sep 2005 while Head of the Currency Department. Paula was part of the executive management team of the NRBT for a lot of time. After 13 years with the NRBT, Paula joined Leiola Duty Free Ltd Sep 2005 as Manager Finance & Administration and was General Manager from 2006. January 2008 to date, Paula became the Country Manager of the Nautilus Minerals Tonga to explore copper, gold, silver and zinc in the deep ocean of Tonga. Vice president of the Tonga Chamber of Commerce and was also a Board member of the Tonga Water Board.

  • Rev Obey Niu Samate - Director

    Qualifications – BA, MA 1990 – 1991, Massey University, NZ.

    Rev Obey Niu Samate is a highly experienced commercial banker. Having retired from the Westpac Bank of Tonga, he has extensive skills and experience of more than 30 years in senior managerial positions specifically in Administration, Finance, and Commercial Lending. He is currently a senior manager at the Free Wesleyan Church’s Finance Department as well as a member of the Church’s various Committees. He was a Director of the Church’s Friendly Island Bookshop Board from 2012-2015. Rev Obey joined the Bank’s Board of Directors on 6 September 2016.

  • Mrs Meleseini’s Lomu

    Chief Executive Officer of the National Retirement Benefits Fund Board who took up role on 30th June 2019 after resignation of Dr Leimoni Taufu’i.

  • Mr Kaho ‘o Vailahi ‘Ofa

    Chief Investment Officer of the Retirement Fund Board who took up role on 6th June 2019 after acquisition of the Bank’s Shares in May 2019.
